Agape Innovations: Turning Waste into Wealth with Black Soldier Fly Technology

Urban areas across Uganda face a growing challenge — organic waste management. Left unmanaged, food waste piles up in landfills, releasing greenhouse gases, attracting pests, and even creating deadly hazards, like the tragic Kiteezi incident. At the same time, farmers struggle with the high cost of fertilizers and the declining health of their soils.

Agape Innovations is closing that gap. Using black soldier fly (BSF) technology, we transform organic waste into high-quality organic fertilizers that feed the soil, protect the environment, and strengthen food security.

How It Works: A Natural Recycling System

The black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) is a harmless insect with an incredible appetite for organic waste. At our facilities, BSF larvae consume organic waste — from market scraps to household food waste — and in the process, produce two valuable outputs:

  • Frass (Organic Fertilizer): A nutrient-rich soil amendment that improves plant growth, enhances soil health, and reduces dependence on synthetic fertilizers.
  • Protein-Rich Larvae: Ideal for use as animal or fish feed, providing a sustainable alternative to costly soy or fishmeal. (optional if you’re not yet doing this)

This closed-loop system keeps waste out of landfills, reduces methane emissions, and creates valuable agricultural inputs — a win for cities, farmers, and the planet.

Why BSF Fertilizers Matter

  • Affordable: Reduces fertilizer costs for farmers.
  • Eco-friendly: Returns nutrients to the soil naturally, without polluting water or harming biodiversity.
  • Safe: Unlike untreated compost, BSF processing minimizes pathogens, making the fertilizer safer for crops and farmers.
  • Scalable: From smallholder farmers to urban municipalities, BSF technology can handle large volumes of organic waste efficiently.

Part of a Bigger Vision for Uganda’s Future

Agape Innovations is on a mission to prevent future waste-related tragedies and to create a cleaner, greener, and more productive agricultural ecosystem. By connecting city waste streams to rural farms through BSF technology, we’re proving that environmental protection and agricultural development can grow together.

We’re currently expanding capacity, seeking partnerships with municipalities, markets, and agro-value chain actors to scale this innovation — transforming waste into wealth, one ton at a time. Reach us at 0771830747 or visit us at Agape Innovations unit (www.agapebsfunit.com)
