Empowering Farmers, Transforming Agriculture.
You buy good seed, pay for labour, apply fertilizer and weed on time. Yet, when harvest comes, the results hardly reflect your investment.
Before accusing your maize of laziness, find out what is happening beneath your feet!
Soil acidity could be part of the problem. When soil becomes too acidic for the crop being grown, some nutrients become less available, while aluminium can reach levels that damage roots. Your crops may struggle even when nutrients are present in the soil.
That is where agricultural lime can help.
Agape Innovations Limited supplies finely powdered agricultural lime. Agric lime helps reduce soil acidity and supplies calcium and magnesium. It is particularly useful where soil tests show that both soil pH and magnesium levels need improvement.
Think of soil pH as part of the environment in which your crops must work. You can provide nutrients, but the soil conditions influence how well plants can access them. Correcting excessive acidity helps create a more suitable environment for roots and nutrient uptake.
In other words, give your crops a fair working environment before demanding overtime!
Properly recommended liming can help farmers:
- Improve nutrient availability, helping crops access nutrients already present or supplied through fertilizer.
- Support healthier roots by reducing the harmful effects of aluminium in strongly acidic soils.
- Supply calcium and magnesium through dolomitic lime.
- Improve conditions for legume nodulation, supporting the process through which crops such as beans and soybean fix nitrogen.
Start with a soil test. The amount of lime needed depends on your soil’s acidity, soil properties, the crop you intend to grow and the quality of the liming material. Your neighbour’s application rate may suit their garden and be wrong for yours. More lime does not automatically mean a better harvest.
Apply the recommended amount evenly and incorporate it into the soil where appropriate for your farming system. Plan ahead: agricultural lime needs time to react, so include it in land preparation when liming is recommended.
Whether you grow maize, beans, coffee or vegetables, understanding your soil helps you make better spending decisions. Agape Innovations offers agricultural lime and soil-testing support to help you take that next step.
Your garden has received seed, fertilizer and plenty of sweat. Now give the soil itself some attention.
